Team Sahlen completed another ROLEX race weekend, by finishing with the 4th straight Top 11 finish. This streak also includes 11th at Barber Motorsports Park as well as 10th place finishes at Mid-Ohio and the Sahlen's 6 Hours events.
"We are extremely happy with the performance of the Corvette. The crew has been working very hard. The #42 ran strong all day, without a problem at all." - states Wayne Nonnamaker
At the start of the event, Will Nonnamaker did his best to race on the very hectic short Watkins Glen course.
"I didn't get the best of starts, and therefore I was caught by the lead Daytona Prototypes very early on. Thus when the 1st Yellow Flag came out at the 30 minute mark, we found ourselves a lap down. It was unfortunate, as Wayne did an excellent job and ran some very competitive lap times at the end of the race.
As the race ended, the darkness of the night started to set in, setting up for a very unusual night finish. The 10th place Pontiac GTO of Matt Connolly Motorsports suffered from a need for a top off of fuel and a stop and go penalty. This put Wayne in a perfect position to close the gap, and nearly position Team Sahlen for a Top 10 finish. Unfortunetely, the race time was completed and 11th was top result for the day.
