Team Sahlen's #43 captured the Sun Trust Most Improved Position award at the recent Mid-Ohio round of the ROLEX Grand American Series. Joe Nonnamaker qualified the #43 Corvette in 16th position.
"Qualifying was a bit crazy. There was a terrible storm blowing in. We we went out and ran the 1st 1/2 of Qualifying. And then a black flag came out and then as we sat there in the pits, the sky looked worse and worse. And the whole team had flashbacks to 3 years ago, when a tornado touched down at the track, and we lost our tent. So not wanting to see a repeat of that situation, we packed up the pits and sent both Corvettes back to the paddock. Fortunately, the storm passed by without hitting the track. But that of course left us out of the remaining part of the Qualifying session. But sometimes its better to be safe than sorry" - states Joe Nonnamaker
In the race, Team Sahlen played perfect strategy to place Joe Nonnamaker as high up as 5th place in the GT class. Then as the pit stops played out over the course of the race, the #43 settled into a groove. The only incident of the race was when the lapped #68 Porsche decided to drive into the side of Wayne while he was finishing #43. Despite having to pit for a flat tire due to the incident, Wayne placed the Corvette in 10th place. This improvement in 6 positions was the best of the GT field and awarded Team Sahlen with the Sun Trust Most Improved Position Award
The next event for Team Sahlen will be the ROLEX Grand American event at Barber Motorsports Park on July 19th. The race will be televised live on SPEED TV.
