< Back to News Home Team Sahlen's early charge ends short at VIR ROLEX weekend

Team Sahlen came to the VIRginia International Raceway weekend ready to take on the GT field.  A short 2 day event was filled with lots of action for all, and certainly plenty of heat to go around.  The weekend started with a 9 am session on Friday morning, and by Saturday at 2 pm the ROLEX race had started.  This made for an action backed weekend for both the fans, drivers and crews.  And within these two days, an early spring heat wave swept through Virginia.  Tempuratures as high as 100 degrees on both Friday and Saturday.  Certainly hot no matter what time of year.  But for the Team Sahlen crew that had been spending time in Ohio in 50 to 60 degree weather, it was a big impact.

In Qualifying, Joe Sahlen placed the #42 Corvette comfortably in 14th spot, and Joe Nonnamaker locked in at 16th on the grid.

"The crew has made fantastic progress with the Corvette.  The car is so easy to drive. I really enjoyed the qualifying session.  Every lap, the car go quicker and quicker." - states Joe Sahlen

At the start of the race, Joe & Joe picked their way through traffic.  An early yellow at 25 minutes into the race saw two GT competitors take each other out.  Team Sahlen avoided the debris and rose up to 9th and 11th in class.  Unfortunately, two separate incidents, one contact with the wall, and one being an electronic gremlin took the two Corvettes out of contention.

In the end the cars finished in 14th and 16th position in the GT class.
