Recently the United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced the details for the 2009 W-League season at their Annual General Meeting held at the Hyatt Regency in Tampa, FL. The United Soccer Leagues W-League has scheduled the Buffalo Flash for a 14 game season. The USL placed the Flash within the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference. Buffalo will open their season against Quebec City Arsenal on May 24th. Buffalo soccer fanatics will be able to see the Flash play up close and personal for a total of eight home games. The team will play their home games at Orchard Park High School, where the Sahlen family has contributed in the school's fundraising efforts to renovate the multi-purpose field over the past year.
"The Orchard Park stadium will be an excellent facility to host the Flash games. The stadium seating offers excellent viewing for the fans. And the playing pitch will be a great turf to provide some excellent playing conditions for the players" - states Coach Aaran Lines.
In total, the United Soccer League's W-League consists of 37 teams playing in five divisions that comprise the three conferences: Eastern, Central, and Western. At the conclusion of the season, 11 W-League teams will qualify for the post season tournament. The W-League Championship Game on August 8th will air on FOX Soccer Channel.
"We are so happy that the USL has provided us with a schedule that provides over half our games to be played at home. With the large and enthusiastic crowds we expect to see at the games, we know that we will definitely have a home field advantage when the competition comes to town."
