Will Nonnamaker is the creator of the Planet Earth Motorsports Concept. He envisioned the concept in 1993 as a senior at Miami University, in Oxford Ohio where he was obtaining his degree in Marketing. By 1997, Will had turned his college vision into a working reality.
Will began racing in a Volkswagen Golf in the SCCA ITA ranks. Wills driving did not go unnoticed as he was named the WOR Rookie of the Year in 1992. In 1995 Will made the jump to the next level competing in selected events in the premiere street stock endurance series in America, the PSCR Speedvision Cup. Will joined with the Phoenix Promotions team, and drove one of their Mazda MX-6s. In 1996 Will ran the entire season in the series, earning himself honors as the 1996 Rising Star.In 1998 Will captured his first pole position at Las Vegas Motorspeedway.
The 1999 season saw Will team with his brother, Wayne, who just graduated from Miami University (OH). In addition to taking on a new driving partner, the team was also taking on the development of a new car for Mazda. Mazda wanted to see the Mazda 626 developed for competition. At the season opener at Sebring International Raceway, with a brand new car, and a rookie co-driver, Will took the first win of his pro career. The win was also the first for his co-driver, and the first for the 626 in the United States or Canada. By the end of the season, Will and his brother Wayne had teamed up to produce 2 wins, six podiums, a pole, and a share the Driver’s Championship.
The year 2000 saw Will and Wayne make the switch from the Mazda marque to the very successful Acura brand. As the duo learned more about the cars and how to dial them in, they became more and more competitive. Three poles and a podium were the highlights of the season. Late in the season, two wins slipped through the two brothers hands because of mechanical difficulties.
In 2001, Will once again teamed up with his brother to run the Grand Am Cup. Will had a career season, earning six wins and ten podiums in the ten race season. Will teamed with four different drivers throughout the season to score those wins. The end of the season saw Will battling Honda factory driver, Pete Haslmer (a two time IMSA GTO Champion) for the Drivers Championship. Winning five of the last six races saw Will take home his second professional Championship in just three years.
In 2002 Will returned with his brother Wayne in defense of the STII crown. By the end of the season the two had racked up five pole positions, five fastest race laps, and four wins to take home the Championship. The Championship was Will’s third and Wayne’s second.
The 2003 season saw the brothers split up for the first time in four years. Will returned to the STII class Acura Integra LS to go for his third straight STII title. Wayne moved into the Grand Sports II Porsche 911 with their father, Joe Nonnamaker.
In the 2003 season Will scored three race wins in the Sport Touring division. In a one off race at Mid Ohio, Will also scored a pole position in the Porsche 996 in the Grand Sport class of the Grand Am Cup.
In 2004 Will teamed with his dad, Joe, in the Super Grand Sport division of the Grand American Rolex Series. The duo teamed up to place Joe fourth in the Driver’s Championship and also score a third place finish for the team in the Team Championship.
