When Joe Nonnamaker started racing in the 70’s his helmet featured an arrow coming up over the top of the helmet. The arrow, he joked, was to remind him which way to go on the track. As the years went by, he went through several other designs, but when his sons (Will and Wayne) began to race in the mid-90s, they both chose to design the arrow theme into their helmets as well.
