It was announced today that Joe Nonnamaker is leading the Full-Bodied Sports Car Category of Race Fan's Valvoline Cup Championship.
Currently, Joe has 91 points in the Championship. Joe's amazing point tally is due to a strong three series campaign. In 2003, Joe is competing in the Grand-Am Cup GS II and ROLEX Grand American series in Planet Earth Motorsports' SpeedSource Porsche. Additionally, Joe is making guest appearances in HRPworld.com's King Motorsports Acura Integra. To date, Joe has tallied 4 victories, 2 seconds, 2 thirds, 2 fourths, and 1 fifth place finish.
"I am having such a fun year racing. I think I am driving more this season than I have the last 5 seasons combined. It's quite a surprise and honor to be leading the Valvoline Cup. Its still early in the season, with many more races to run." -States Joe Nonnamaker
Joe started driving Corvettes in SOLO competition in 1972. From there he graduated to Road Racing in a Ford Pinto. 20+ years of racing later and Joe is still competing today, having graduated to Porsche 911s and Acura Integras. Currently Joe co-drives with his two sons - Wayne and Will.
From the Valvoline Cup website, the official description of the Cup:
"The Valvoline Cup is a national season points championship that is open to virtually all drivers in all types and classes of wheel to wheel (unless specifically noted) competition in all sanctioned racing or track sponsored weekly racing programs throughout the country. There are 34 classes in the Valvoline Cup program for 2003.
Every driver will be awarded points for finishing positions in their own racing series. This way, a SCCA Regional driver can compete with a ROLEX driver, and a NASA Honda Challenge driver can compete against a World Challenge driver on equal footing and for the same awards. The points for each driver for the season will be based on the 15 best finishes for the driver during the 2003 racing season. Point standings will be posted regularly on this site.
The Valvoline Cup concludes on October 31st, 2003, with the champion in each class receiving a Valvoline Cup trophy."
Joe Nonnamaker's campaign for the Valvoline Cup is supported through partnerships with GOJO, HRPworld.com, King Motorsports, ORISON Marketing, SpeedSource, and TheRaceSite.com.
