< Back to News Home Wayne and Will Nonnamaker Chosen as Judges for Watkins Glen Car Show

Posted (06/14/2003) - For the first time ever, Watkins Glen International will host a Custom Import/Domestic Auto Show, which is sure to be filled with the usual 20-inch rims, back wings, neon lights, black-tinted windows, bright orange, yellow and green paint jobs and of course, low-riders. The exciting and new tricked-out event will take place June 21-22, during the Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix weekend.

"Custom import and domestic cars have become very popular across the country, including here in Upstate New York," said track President Craig Rust. "We couldn't be more excited to provide a location for the region's best custom cars to be on display for everyone to admire and enjoy."

HRPworld.com's Wayne and Will Nonnamaker have been chosen to be honorary judges for the Auto Show.

Wayne and Will are very experienced in racing today's imports. They have driven everything from VWs to Mazdas to Acuras to Porsches. Their efforts have led to Driver Championships in 1999, 2001 & 2002.

Beyond racing today's imports, the two brothers are also experienced Car Show Promoters. Their events have included the Kempthorn Auto Mall Motorsports Festival and the Sporty Compact eXtravaganza.

"We are very excited to be a part of the inaugural Show," commented Will Nonnamaker. "I think this is a great opportunity to bring together the Sports Car Racing scene with the Custom Import/Domestic scene. I know this event will become a big part of the Watkins Glen race weekend in the years to come."

Admission into the Auto Show is only $75 per car, which includes two weekend admissions into the event, special parking in the Auto Show display area, parade laps of the track and a special gift. Single admissions are available for only $40.

All Auto Show entrants will be judged on Saturday, with the winning cars in the Domestic, Import, Truck and Vintage categories receiving tickets to the SIRIUS at The Glen NASCAR Winston Cup race August 7-10th, automotive gifts certificates and other prizes to be named at a later date. Auto Show space is limited, so early registration is recommended.

A new era in sports car racing hits The Glen as the all-new Daytona Prototype makes its debut as part of the Rolex Sports Car Series in the Sahlen's Sports Car Grand Prix, June 20-22. There's plenty of action scheduled for the weekend, highlighted by Sunday's Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Leading up to the main event, you won't want to miss the two action-packed Grand-Am Cup races on Friday and Saturday afternoons. It's racing so fierce that the 2002 winner was determined in the final turn of the last lap. Tickets start at only $19 and are now sale, with advance prices available through May 4.
