As we are off to Phoenix in less than two weeks, this will have to be a short installment.
We headed to Homestead this past weekend. A 22 hour drive with the motorhome, the trip provided some time to catch up on some sleep, which was good since once the weekend started we were busy.
With a lot of tracktime for the weekend, and the fact our team was practicing six cars, we brought in a lot of help for the weekend. As planned, we ended up only racing four of the six cars, but still the crew was busy.
The race went fairly well. We felt that a third place finish in the Sports Touring II (with my brother Will and Howie Liebengood) class and a fifth in Grand Sports II (with myself and our dad, Joe) was respectable.
The disappointment of the weekend was that our new addition to our team, the #86 TheRaceSite.com Acura Integra Type R, didn't perform as well as we had liked. The car overheated in the middle of the race, and we had to park the car to prevent hurting the motor.
While it was disappointing, we picked the car up on the way to Homestead and never had a chance to apply our Honda / Acura knowledge to the car as we would like. We are excited now that the car is back in our shop and we can make a few minor adjustments to the car which we believe will be very helpful. We have Mike Fitzgerald and Tim Pappas driving the car at Phoenix, so we are very excited about our chances at that track. Last year at Phoenix we placed a car on the podium in GSI, STI, and STII. We are hoping to once again podium in three classes.
We are back on the road at the end of this month so that we can race at Phoenix International Raceway on May 2-3. Check back after that race for another report.
