< Back to News Home December 2002 Diary; A Season in Review

Posted (12/27/2002) - Well, another long year has come to an end, and we now look to our 2003 season. The season wrapped up in mid November, and we have been running non-stop since then to get ready for 2003. Between trips to the PRI (Performance Racing Industry) tradeshow in Indianapolis, to continued development of our Acura Integras, to our acquisition and preparation of the 2001 Championship winning Porsche from SpeedSource for a campaign in GSII next season, we haven't had much of an off season.

Going into the holiday break here we are happy to say that our team, Phoenix ProMotions, has renewed partnerships with its major corporate partners. On the Planet Earth Motorsports side of things, both Orison Marketing and GOJO are going to continue supporting the environmental education that we have been providing to the public and the racing community since 1996.

On the HRPWorld.com Racing side of things, we will continue to promote the Hoerr Racing name (with their new site, HRPWorld.com) and we will also continue to partner with King Motorsports, the sole authorized distributor of Mugen parts in North America.

We are happy to say that Grand Am has announced an exciting 2003 schedule for Grand Am Cup that we are excited to be a part of. Grand Am announced eleven races scheduled at some great venues around the country, including returns to my favorite tracks; Mosport, Mont Tremblant, Mid Ohio, and Virginia.

The driver lineups will shuffle slightly. After I co-drove with Will to his third Championship and my second, I will be moving into the role of co-driver to our dad, Joe. He and I will share the #41 Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche 911 in the Grand Sports II class. The car is the car SpeedSource owner Sylvain Tremblay drove to the 2001 Championship, so we are hoping to add to the car's winning heritage.

As for Will, I feel confident that his season will be a strong one. He will try to take home this third consecutive Sports Touring II title. If he can do that, he will match twelve other drivers who have been able to three-peat in any class of professional sportscar racing (in North America) since it began in the 1960s.

The 2002 season was one of success for the Nonnamakers. We were able to bring home five wins, and Will and I shared a hard fought STII Championship. Will and I started the season off with a string of second place finishes, but once we got rolling we scored three straight wins to finish the season off. The Fenton Motorsports camp put up a strong and fair fight all year long, and I commend them for their sportsmanship and talents.

Now we head into 2003 and hope that we can continue our success of 2002. Look for another report on this site in Mid-January detailing out the results of our testing at Daytona in early January and previewing our 2003 season.
