< Back to News Home Canadian Tire Motorsports Park results in a solid 6th place finish

Team Sahlen traveled North of the border to Canada for the 7th round of the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

The event turned out to be both a high and low weekend.  For the #42 Team Sahlen racer, 2nd and 1st in the 2 practice sessions were positive uplifters. And for the race, the team improved on its starting position from 14th to 7th at the 1st caution at 1 hour and 10 minutes into the race.  Then followed that up with securing a fine 6th place finish at the end.

For the #43 entry of Team Sahlen, Joe Sahlen made a great run at the start, improving on his 21st qualifying position.  After the 1st round of pit stops, Joe handed the car over to Joe Nonnamaker on the lead ST lap.  Joe continued the progress, rising up to 17th place. Unfortunately, a late race spin in turn one took the entry out of the race, and in need of some significant repairs.

Will Nonnamaker shared his thoughts - “It was a tough race today.  It was very hot.  In fact the hottest conditions we saw all week at the track.  The track got real slippery, and near the end of my stint, it was very difficult to manage the tires.  I didn’t do us any favors qualifying in 14th slot.  But I fought hard the whole time and came into the pits in 7th place.  Wayne did a fine job battling the traffic in ST to secure a 6th place finish.  Most off all we are all glad that Dad is ok after his wreck.  He took a pretty hard hit.”

The 6th place finish moves the #42 entry up into 2nd Place in the ST Point Standings.  The next event on the calendar will be the July 25th event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Canadian Tire Motorsports Park event will be televised on FOXSports1 at 10 am EDT on July 20th.
