< Back to News Home Hella Lights assist in lighting up the night for the Go Grass or Pass Racing Mazda

When you have to compete in Endurance Racing, having a good set of lights is not just important, its critical.  This is because Endurance Racing often is run into the night time.  And if you can’t see where you are going, it will not only slow you down, but can easily lead to a big accident in the dark.  This why it’s critical to choose the right set of headlights.  And for Team Sahlen and the Nonnamakers, this is Hella Lights.

Team Sahlen Driver Will Nonnamaker shared his thoughts – “I can give you a direct real life example of the impact of having bad headlights vs good headlights.  Several years ago, for fun we built a Chump Car race car.  This type of racing is where you only are supposed to pay $500 or less for the initial car, and except for safety reasons, only minimally more can be spent more on the street car to make it a racer.  So, with the spirit of the rules, when we built this car, we went and installed a set of old headlamps we had sitting on the shelf from 20 years ago.  Well that was a big mistake.  Because even in a Chump Car 1986 Mazda RX-7, bad headlights at 120 mph is bad news no matter what. And when the fog rolled in 2 years in a row at the 25 Hour event at Nelson Ledges, it was downright scrary.  Thus for the 3rd year we competed, we decided that even if it was a $500 car, we were going to invest to have a good set of headlights.  So we purchased 4 HELLA lights and installed them.  And what a difference it made in driving.  I not only felt safer, but during the night sessions, we were the fastest thing on the track.”
