Heat in a race car can be detrimental in a race car; whether that is robbing the car of power, overheating systems, or draining the driver of valuable energy resources.   It’s inevitable that you will have heat.  What is key is how you manage that heat.  When Team Sahlen campaigned their ROLEX GT Series Mazda RX-8 and Prototype BMW-Riley, it was vital to ensure that heat was diverted away from these key areas.  This is why Team Sahlen choose Design Engineering, Inc. to solve their needs.  Not only was Design Engineering in Team Sahlen’s back door in Northeast Ohio, but they are the market leaders when it comes to managing heat.

Team Sahlen driver Will Nonnamaker added - “Our previous race cars before the Mazdas were Corvettes.  And we never heat treated those bow tie racers.  With that, they were so hot, you could literally cook a Hot Dog inside them. Then when we moved on to the RX-8s, we decided to take the next step and install Design Engineering’s products to elevate some of that heat build up. And that trend just continued forward when we moved last year to the Daytona Prototypes.”

Now as Team Sahlen transitions into the Continental Sports Car Challenge in the ST class, the team is using every technique they know to extract the maximum potential of Porsche Cayman on track.  This includes having a significant portion of the Engine Bay area wrapped in DEI’s gold Heat Reflective Tape.  Additionally, the Air Intake has also been treated to a gold wrapping.

Team Sahlen Team Manager Jay Chapman shared his thoughts - “Everything is so tight in the ST class.  Going the extra mile to wrap our vital pieces in DEI’s Gold Heat Reflective Tape is what it is going to take to get to the front of the pack.  Everyone at DEI has been fantastic to work with, and always are able to supply the product we need on time.”

Design Engineering, Inc.™ is one of the foremost suppliers of thermal tuning product featuring products for racers, street performance enthusiasts, and hobbyists alike. In addition to supplying the performance aftermarket with thermal tuning products, Design Engineering serves the needs of the powersports, marine, industrial and commercial industry markets the world over.

Design Engineering has now entered its second decade of business, and to keep pace with their growth, a new larger facility was acquired offering four acres for future expansion. Manufacturing and warehouse operations were expanded and a state-of-the-art Research and Development department was added as well as additional office space. These facility improvements have expanded DEI’s manufacturing capabilities, warehouse space for increased on-the-shelf inventory, and our ability to react quickly to customer requests without skipping a beat. DEI is now poised to easily handle additional growth and more customer demand.

DEI’s innovation continues to be recognized by industry peers.
