< Back to News Home Team Sahlen leads 57 laps enroute to strong 4th place finish at Lime Rock Park season finale

After securing Pole Position, Team Sahlen’s Dane Cameron wasted little time at the start of the season finale at Lime Rock Park, in asserting his dominance at the front of the race event.  In fact Dane led the 1st 57 laps of the 173 lap event.  At the time of the 1st pit stops, Dane handed over to his co pilot Wayne.  Despite only 15 minutes of practice time, Wayne drove a top notch stint, keeping the #42 in 2nd place during the entire shift.  As the last round of pit stops neared a full course caution came out.  Team Sahlen was riding in 2nd place at the time.  The #6 Prototype that had just pitted prior to the full course thus only needed a splash an dash of fuel, and the #01 machine that was also carrying more fuel, beat out the #42 crew.  Thus Dane was placed in 4th place, where he battled hard to the end of the race to secure the position.

Team Manager Jay Chapman shared his enthusiasm after the event – “I am so proud of the crew.  They have been working so hard on pit stops, and we held our own with all the best out there during the stops.  This efficient and speedy in and outs allowed Wayne and Dane to stay at the front, and not get swallowed up into the mid pack.”

Team Sahlen’s #43 BMW Powered Prototype had an extremely clean run all day, driven by the father/son duo of Joe & Will Nonnamaker.  With only minor contact with competitors on the tight 1 mile bull ring of Lime Rock Park, the #43 entry never left the track, never spun and had 2 super clean pit stops to bring the entry home in 11th place.  This finish marked the 11th straight event without a mechanical dnf.

Shared Will Nonnamaker - “It was a great race.  I had a lot of fun.  I am sure glad I have been increasing my work out schedule.  I drove something like 2 hours of the event, which around Lime Rock Park is a long time.  Now its onto 2014 and the new United SportsCar Championship.”

At the conclusion of the season, Team Sahlen can be proud of their inaugural campaign in Prototype racing.  This included:

-      Wayne Nonnamaker winning the Jim Trueman Prototype Class Sportsman Award

-      Led 7 of 12 events for 108 total laps

-      Multiple Times being Fastest in Practice
