< Back to News Home Team Sahlen - "Home Crowd Advantage"

The ROLEX event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is always circled in early in the year by the Nonnamaker family as a highlight to the season.  This is because the event is the home race for the family that hails from the Buckeye State.

“We feel like the excitement and energy that the fan base at Mid-Ohio brings to us provides us with a ‘Home Crowd Advantage’.  We have lots of family and friends at the event each year, but over the years we have also amassed quite a following of fans that make this a special race each year. We have always lived in Ohio, whether that was Findlay, Bowling Green, Lima, Oxford, Avon Lake, Massillon, or Canton,,,so we have been to all parts of the state.  Hopefully we will again give the Buckeye crowd something to cheer about.” – shared Will Nonnamaker

This year Team Sahlen has stepped up to the premier top level Prototype Class racing for the overall victory in the Grand American ROLEX Sports Car Series.  But fans don’t have to worry about figuring out which Prototypes are Team Sahlen’s.  True to their heritage, the Team Sahlen race cars are decked out in their traditional Red & Black with Yellow Lightning bolt theme that fans have grown so fond of.  And of course the numbers are still #42 and #43, the same digits that the team has been running since the early 80’s.

To commemorate this special event, Team Sahlen commissioned Cincinnati Artist Roger Warrick to design a special piece of artwork.  The artwork will be handed out to the fans as limited run Fan Card just for the Mid-Ohio event.  The image has the #42 & #43 BMW Powered Prototypes coming over Turn 5 and into 6, with the crowd on the hill wildly cheering on the

“We just had our race at downtown Detroit 2 weeks ago.  It was a tumultuous race, that somehow we came out the other side with a fantastic run.  We were beat on and banged on by our competition, but we held strong, the crew had some fantastic pit stops, then ran as high as 2nd place with 2 laps to go.  In the end this netted us a fantastic 4th and 9th place finish.  This was our best finish of the year and also marked our 5th Top Ten in 5 races so far this year.  I love driving at Mid-Ohio and look forward to this weekend.” – Shared Wayne Nonnamker

Added Wayne’s teammate Dane Cameron - “I am really looking forward to mid-Ohio. It's the home race for our team and the Nonnamaker family so it is always fun to so many extra guests come out. I think we should be very competitive, we ran our initial DP test here so it will be nice to return to a track we have been before with our Riley-BMW. We have had strong pace during the last two race weekends so I am hopeful we can continue our form and get onto the podium.”

Currently, Team Sahlen is in 7th and 10th in the Team Championship in their rookie campaign in the Prototype class.  As well Wayne Nonnamaker is leading the Jim Trueman Sportsman Award for the Prototype Class.

The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course race will be on June 15th at 4:40 pm.  The race will be televised live on SPEEDTV.
