< Back to News Home Team Sahlen returns to Road America to make up for near victory of 2011

Posted (06/12/2012) -

At the 2011 Road America ROLEX event, Team Sahlen had a very near victory, finishing less than a second behind the #31 Whelen Corvette.  This result was on top of the factor that Team Sahlen also qualified on the Pole Position for the race.  For 2012, the team hopes to do one better.

“We were very competitive at Road America last year.  Although the #31 Whelen team won the race fair and square, we feel like we have unfinished business at this track.  After securing pole and leading much of the race, its difficult to loose a race by less than a second.  I am very excited to back here and make up for last year.  The entire Team Sahlen crew is hungry for results.” – stated Wayne Nonnamaker

Dane Cameron shared his thoughts leading into the race, “I am really excited about heading to road America. Last year Wayne scored the pole and scored a second place so I am hopeful we can do one better! Road America always races well and provides plenty of exciting action so I am looking forward to putting all of the pieces together and closing the deal as we have been running so well lately.”

For the Road America event, the #42 RX8 will be shared by the regular duo of Wayne Nonnamaker and Dane Cameron.  For the #43 RX8, Joe Nonnamaker will be joined by his son Will Nonnamaker.  At least year’s event, the #43 finished in 9th place.  The duo of Joe and Will hope to repeat that Top 10 finish

“Our goal all season long for the #43 Mazda is to secure a Top 10 placement in the GT Team Championship.  There is a lot of prestige and yearend earnings that come with such a placement.  If we can continue our trend of pace and finishes in the 2nd half of the year, we should be in good contention.” – Emphatically stated Joe Nonnamaker

The Grand-Am Sports Car Series 250 at Road America will be on June 23rd  at 11 am.  The race will be televised live on SPEEDTV at 12 noon ET.
