In a day when attrition due to wrecks and mechanical failure was the norm, Team Sahlen ran a steady and progressive pace to capture another Top 10 result in the ST Class of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge held at Virginia International Raceway.

“We went to opposite of everyone this weekend, and had our mechanical issues in practice, while it seemed everyone else saved their misfortune for the race.  Sometimes it works out that way, and you take the results these types of weekends give you.” – states Will Nonnamaker

Resulting from the lack of track time, Team Sahlen qualified 27th out of 30 entries in the ST class.  Slowly but surely, Joe Sahlen picked his way through traffic.  Eventually at the 1 hour mark, Joe handed over to Will Nonnamaker.  Will continued the team’s charge to net a 10th place finish.  After 4 Rounds into the Season, Team Sahlen finds themselves in 9th place in the ST Class Team Championship

This 10th place finish was also very significant, as Team Sahlen was the Top Place Mazda in ST

“Unfortunately, some of the wrecks that occurred early in the race involved some of the Mazda teams.  This meant that we were in a position to carry the mantle for Mazda today.  It would have been nice to have placed a little higher in the standings to have gathered more valuable points, but still 10th might just be what helps to win Mazda the crown at the end of the year.” – states Jay Chapman, Team Manager

The next event for Team Sahlen will be the Sahlen’s 6 Hours of the Glen to be held on June 6th.  The race will be televised tape delayed on SPEEDTV at 1 pm June 13th

The 2010 Team Sahlen GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 & GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Campaigns will be supported by Mazda, Mazdaspeed, HRPWorld.com, HAWK Performance, Cool Shirt, Racetech Seats, BBS, Racing Print Media, Alcon, Mothers Polish, EMCO, TheRaceSite.com, Grassroots Motorsports, Holliday Canopies, Alcon, CM Racing, Genesis Technologies, Endurance Karting, Bell Helmets, Castrol, Ianetti Design, and SpeedSource Engineering.
