The development of a brand new street car into a race winning race car does not happen overnight. It takes lots of testing, testing and testing to get the set up right to be a winner. This is especially true in such a competitive series as the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.
This has been especially true for the MAZDASPEED3. Over the 1st three events of the 2010 season, the MAZDASPEED3 has achieved a top ten result at each event. But to date, the new 2010 model has yet to crack the Top 5 in the race results. And the teams campaigning the MAZDASPEED3, Freedom Autosport, iMoto and Team Sahlen, have not held back in their desire to get results with a full contingent of strong championship level drivers in the race seats such as Randy Pobst, Pierre Kleinubring, Jason Saini and Will Nonnamaker.
For Round 4 of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, Team Sahlen hopes to take the MAZDASPEED3 to that next level into the Top 5 of the series.
“We are working very hard to further evolve the MAZDASPEED3. Personally for our team, the last event at Barber Motorsports Park was a bit of a lost event, with a mysterious gremlin. But we plan to attend the Thursday test day in hopes of getting the set up perfect for the event. The goal for all Mazda team in 2010 is to win the ST Manufacturer Championship. Currently Mazda is 2 points out of the lead. So if we can assist in blocking some points against the competition that will be great. Additionally, despite our unfortunate result at Barber, we are still in 11th place in the ST Team Standings. And a finish in the Top 10 with 7 events to go is still very reachable.” – states Will Nonnamaker – states Will Nonnamaker
