25% of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 season has now been completed, and Wayne Nonnamaker still leads the Bob Akin GT Class Sportsman Standings. Wayne currently has 1096 points. At the Barber Motorsports Park event, Wayne was able to pull a point gap from the previous challenger Richard Zahn, who did not compete in the round 3 event.
Yet, Wayne has found a new challenger in the form of Emil Assentato, driver of the #69 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8. Emil is a familiar competitors to the Nonnamakers for the Bob Akin GT award, having narrowly beaten Joe Nonamaker to the prize in 2007. Currently, with 2 straight victories, Emil is only 78 points behind Wayne in the standings.
Currently 3rd in the standings is Will Nonnamaker, who is only 91 points behind Emil. Will is the inaugural 2005 winner of the Bob Akin GT class award.
“Its going to be very tough to beat Emil. We are both in great race cars in the form of the Mazda RX-8, plus Emil is driving very well at this point. It will just come down to Team Sahlen executing at every event, then we will have to see where we are at the end of the season.” – states Wayne Nonnamaker
