Hoping to emulate his brother Will’s accomplishment of winning the 2005 Bob Akin GT Class Sportsman Award, young Wayne Nonnamaker sits atop the 2010 GT Sportsman Standings in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16. Wayne’s fine 7th and 10th place finishes in the 1st two events of the 2010 season sees him in the points lead. Currently his lead is 50 points of Richard Zahn.
At this weekend’s Barber Motorsports Park event this weekend, Wayne will be again partnered with his father Joe in the #43 Mazda RX-8. And the 2005 Bob Akin Award winner Will Nonnamaker will be partnered with Joe Sahlen in Team Sahlen’s #42 Mazda RX-8 entry.
“I am very excited to be leading the Bob Akin Award. Its still a long year. But the only way you can win this award is to consistently finish in the Top 10 and keep getting laps to obtain the mileage points. With the Mazda RX-8, I have a very mount to get me to that result.” – states Wayne Nonnamaker
In addition to Wayne Nonnamaker’s fine standing in the Bob Akin Sportsman Award, Team Sahlen also finely positioned in the GT Team Standings. The #43 Mazda RX-8 is in 7th place and the #42 is positioned in 10th place.
The Barber Motorsports Park race will be televised live at 1:30 pm on SPEED TV. Also racing on the same weekend will be the Indy Racing League. This will be the 1st time the IRL has raced at Barber Motorsports Park.
