< Back to News Home New Timing & Scoring Observation Stand unveiled at December Test Days

At the December Test Days, Team Sahlen unveiled their brand new Timing & Scoring Observation Stand.   The Rolling Stand includes seating for 4 individuals.  Across the top of the stand is 3 flat screen monitors.  One Monitor will be dedicated to Grand American Timing & Scoring.  The 2nd Monitor will be dedicated to weather monitoring.  And the 3rd Monitor will have a live SPEED TV feed of the race.

To fit the demands of Team Sahlen particular Pit and Trailer requirements, it became necessary to build a Stand versus buying one.  So the crew worked very hard in the Fall off-season to build a stand that would fit all the parameters desired.  Builiding everything from scratch, everyone chipped in to help.  This included setting up the entire electronics system required to run the Computers, Monitors and Wireless Network.  For the December Test Days, the Stand went down in bare metal.  Then for the upcoming January "Roar before the 24", the Stand is being painted and decaled in Team Sahlen livery.

The back of the Observation Stand also has two monitors for Grand American live timing streaming and SPEED TV race coverage.  In the middle of the two monitors is a docking station for the crew to work on their lap PCs used for data download and processing.

Stated Team Sahlen's Kris Nonnamaker, "It seemed very strange sitting up high in our own Observation Stand for Timing & Scoring.  I have used other Team's Stands in the past, but for the most part, we have conducted our Timing & Scoring from our prior system that was a simple table and chairs.  This should provide us with a great way to enhance our processes for gathering the Timing data.  And as a bonus, I should be able to see a lot more of the race now."

One additional necessary item when having a Timing & Scoring Observation Stand is Tent Leg Extensions, that allow the Pop Up Tent in the pits to be another 2 feet in the air.  This is an additional investment that Team Sahlen made in the off season, purchasing Two 10x20 Red Pop Up tents with leg extensions.

The 2010 Team Sahlen ROLEX & KONI Challenge Series Campaign will be supported by Mazda, Mazdaspeed, HRPWorld.com, HAWK Performance, Cool Shirt, Mother's Polish, TheRaceSite.com, Grassroots Motorsports, Alcon, CM Racing, Racetech Seats, BBS Wheels, Alcon, Genesis Technologies, Endurance Karting and SpeedSource Engineering.
