P
lanet Earth Motorports kicked off the 1998 season with a victory at Daytona International Speedway. This is Planet Earth Motosports' fifth straight victory at Daytona, tying the series record for consecutive victories at one track.
The weekend started off well with the team being the fastest in practice, and capturing the pole for the #43 Mazda MX-6. Starting the cars were Joe Nonnamaker, Paul Dubinsky, and new comer to the team, Tom Green. Joe
and Paul were running one-two when they turned the car over to their co-drivers. The #41 Mazda MX-6 being driven by Tom Green was experiencing an engine problem. Tom gave it all he had, and was able to keep the car in fourth, not too far the second place #42 car.
Bill Pate, Dick Starita, and Will Nonnamaker brought the cars home to finish first, second, and fourth. This was almost an unheard of
podium sweep for the Planet Earth Motorsports team.
The team was elated with the win. Team owner/driver Joe Nonnamaker said that "even though their weren't a lot of cars here we were really able to showcase our the talents of our team and crew with our fifth straight win here at Daytona." The next race for the team is at Sebring International Raceway in March.
