Race events at Watkins Glen are always special for Joe Sahlen. The track is the home to the Sahlen's 6 Hours. Plus the venue is a short drive for Sahlen's home base of Buffalo, New York.
So the 2nd visit for the ROLEX series to Watkins Glen is a big bonus for Joe Sahlen. Unlike the Sahlen's 6 Hours, this event will be held on the Glen short course. To fully prepare for this event, the Team Sahlen crew and Joe attended a recent Monday test session held by Grand American on the short course.
"I had never driven on the Glen short course before. Getting the chance to practice on it for a day was very advantageous. The laps are very fast and quick. Managing traffic will be one of the key ingredients in the mix in being successful in this short 2 hour endurance event."
- states Joe Sahlen
Co-driving with Joe Sahlen in the #42 Corvette will be Will Nonnamaker. At the recent Sahlen's 6 Hours, Joe & Will finished in 10th place in the epic event. Team Sahlen will also be entering the #43 Corvette with Joe & Wayne Nonnamaker driving. The father and son duo recently secured a 10th place finish at the Mid-Ohio race weekend.
The last time Team Sahlen competed at the NASCAR weekend event with the ROLEX series was 2005. At the time Team Sahlen was racing a Porsche in the GT class. The team finished in 7th place, assisting Will Nonnamaker in gaining valuable points in the Bob Akin Sportsman Award, that he would go on to win at the end of the season in Mexico City.
The Watkins Glen event will be televised live on SPEED Channel on August 7th at 8 pm.
