Another Season concludes, and another year of stories and adventures for Team Sahlen. The 2008 Season concluded for Team Sahlen Miller Motorsports Park with the 1000 km event.
Thursday saw the Team Sahlen Corvettes enter the track test day to gain more test and tuning. All four drivers were able to get good quality time.
Friday dawned practice sessions and a day ending qualifying session. In the last session just before qualifying, Joe Nonnamaker placed the #43 in 6th place in the GT class. High hopes were all round Team Sahlen for the qualifying session. That is until a freak shower threw a loop into the session. The entire session was under sprinkles until the last lap. Wayne Nonnamaker was the first to receive the checkered flag, and posted the 5th fastest time. Then the drying track continued to dry, and by the time the last timed lap was over, Wayne had fallen back to 15th on the grid.
"It was very difficult on slicks to even keep the car on the track. But then the last lap was really good, but then we were the first to get the checkered, and that gave the advantage to all those behind us on the track." - states Wayne Nonnamaker
At the start of the race, Wayne made a significant move up the grid, rising as high as 9th place at the 1 hour mark. Joe Sahlen started the #42 Corvette and made similar progress through the field.
