< Back to News Home November Test a Success for Team Sahlen

Posted (11/20/2007) - The long period off after the season finale at Miller Motorsports Park was a productive one, as Team Sahlen had worked hard to make improvements to the HRPWorld.com Corvettes. Going into the November Test Session at Daytona, Team Sahlen choose to spit the development items between the #42 and #43 Corvettes. This allowed twice as many variables to be tried in a short amount of time.

While many competitors were making big announcements about plans for the 2008 season at the Test Session, Team Sahlen plugged away at making reliability and speed gains for the 2008 season. A patient and methodical approach saw Day 1 of the test end with positive results.

"We came down with some ideas, and after the first day, we really had a grasp of what direction to go. Having a low pressure, non race weekend situation really assisted our progress." - stated Will Nonnamaker

Knowledge gained from Wednesday resulted in fine tuning the lessons learned on Day 2. Several times Team Sahlen headed back to the garages to make suspension alterations in the focus to see the end result.

"After Day 2, we were all smiles. Reliability was strong, which is important in a 24 Hour race. Plus, we gained valuable lessons on setting up the HRPWorld.com Corvettes. Now we have to go back and use the next 5 weeks to our advantage to come back with further enhancements at the January Test Days." - states Wayne Nonnamaker

The Test was also the first time for Team Sahlen on the Pirelli Tires that will be new to the GT class in 2008. Lap times did not seem to be significantly different than on the 2007 Hoosier Tires, but set up changes were required to get the maximum from the rubber.

"The Pirelli definitely had the feel of an all out race tire. The tires seemed very predictable for long periods of running. I think the Pirelli will definitely work well with our HRPWorld.com Corvettes." - states Joe Nonnamaker

"The test went very well. Getting behind the wheel and getting track time in the competitive GT class is so important. I am looking forward to the January Test Session, as we will have both the GT class Corvettes and the ST class Mazda to play with." - states Joe Sahlen

The 2007 Team Sahlen ROLEX GT Campaign is support by HRPWorld.com, GOJO, ZIP Products, Kempthorn Auto Mall, HAWK Performance, Forgeline Wheels, Cool Shirt, TheRaceSite.com, TheRaceMarket.com, Grassroots Motorsports, HOTSEAT, Holliday Canopies, Alcon, CM Racing, Joe Gibbs Motor Oil, Genesis Technologies, Endurance Karting, Racetech Seats, and Corsa Performance.
