< Back to News Home Sahlen's Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolets; American Traditions

Posted (06/04/2007) - For those looking for a taste of American traditions, look no further than the Team Sahlen paddock at this ROLEX weekend at Sahlen's 6 Hours at the Glen.

Listed as one of the Top 5 Hot Dogs on the Travel Channel, Sahlen's are known to all Northeasterners who enjoy a good dog on a warm summer day.

Based out of Buffalo, Sahlen's is known for their high-quality, highly delicious meat products ever since they began in 1869. The Founder of Sahlen's was a gentlemen by the name of Joe Sahlen. Now 5 generations later, Joe's decendant - Joe Sahlen continues that tradition. Sahlen's has grown to become New York's favorite hot dog provider and a tradition to many New Yorkers' homes. And yes Joe Sahlen does have a son, and his name is Joe, and yes he is a part of the family business at Sahlen's.

And taking the American Tradition one step further, Team Sahlen will be campaigning the legendary American Sports Car, the Chevrolet Corvette, in the Saturday afternoon Sahlen's 6 Hour event.

Team Sahlen will be entering their HRPWorld.com Corvettes in the 7th round of thirteen events in the 2007 ROLEX Sports Car Series. Drivers for the #42 will be Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker. In the #43 racer will be the Father & Son duo of Joe & Wayne Nonnamaker.

For Joe Sahlen, he is enjoying his fist full season in the ROLEX series, having spent two full seasons in the Koni Challenge Series. Those two seasons of racing have provided Joe Sahlen with a solid foundation to further involve Sahlen's in his life long passion for Sports Car racing.

Joe's racing passion started at Watkins Glen, where the entire Sahlen family would go to the Formula One races in the 70's to watch Fittipaldi, Revson, and Andretti race around the legendary track.

Now that passion has come full circle, with the Sahlen's name synonymous with the Grand American racing community.

Beyond Fielding 2 Car GT team, and driving full time, Sahlen's is very much involved in all facets of Grand American Sports Car Racing.
For the 5th consecutive season, Sahlen's is the sponsor of the legendary 6 Hour ROLEX Sports Car series event held at Watkins Glen International in every June.
And at every Grand American ROLEX event, Racers are treated to the renowned Sahlen's hospitality through the Sahlen's Paddock Club. For 3 years running the Sahlen's Paddock Club has become a tradition all its own by providing meals to Grand American teams, officials, drivers and special guests at nearly every track on the Grand American Rolex schedule. And of course, Sahlen's Hot Dogs are always to be found. Although, racers have found they better get there quick, as the hot dogs are always the most popular items, and are the first to go.
"Our family has always enjoyed coming to the races, camping out in our motorhome. Watkins Glen is a wonderful, classic American road course. It's a great driver's track, and there are so many great vantage points for the fans to catch the action." States Joe Sahlen
From piling into the family RV and camping out at the track to race day festivities and beyond, every member of the Sahlen family bring their own contribution to Grand American race weekends.
And not to be out done, Joe's wife Anita, brings her own flavor of American Tradition, her own special recipe Apple Pie to each race. And you can bet that family, friends and the crew certainly enjoy that pie with big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Hot dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet. Sahlen's continues to keep great American traditions alive and well at Watkins Glen International this weekend.
