< Back to News Home Team Sahlen's GS race at Lime Rock a weird ride

Posted (05/29/2007) - Team Sahlen had high hopes for the GS races at Lime Rock. Drivers were Joe Masessa and Wayne Nonnamaker. Lime Rock is Joe's home track, and Wayne is the 2003 GS Driver Champion. Plus, Lime Rock has proven to be a good track for the Porsche over the years.

As the weekend started, things went well with practice going very smoothly. Then qualifying came, and a weird series of events soon transpired. First a flat tire occurred, along with a broken shock. The crew fixed the shock and tire, and prepared for the Monday warm up session. Then even more strangely, a broken driveshaft occurred, forcing Wayne Nonnamaker off track, breaking the front radiator.

With only 1 hour between warm up and the race, time was of the essence. After a delayed time receiving the Porsche in the paddock, the Team Sahlen crew went to work on the Porsche. Like fury of hands, the crew desended upon the #04 racer.

A new radiator, driveshaft, hub and rotor were all installed. But the process was not completed until 8 laps into the race.

"What an unfortunate series of events that set us back from making the start of the race. I am so proud of the team for not giving up and only loosing us 8 laps at the start. If only the race would have been delayed by 10 minutes, we would have made it. We want to thank North Jersey Dermatology Center for their support of Team Sahlen's #04 HRPWorld.com Porsche this weekend. Hopefully in the future we give them a Top 10 in the KONI series." - stated Wayne Nonnamaker

Once the Porsche was on track, Joe Masessa did a fantastic job getting up to speed. He handed the HRPWorld.com Porsche over to Wayne at the 1 hour mark in fine shape. Wayne continued to run a flawless race. In the end, the duo finished an amazing 23rd overall out of 36 GS class cars, despite being down the 8 laps at the start!

The KONI Challenge Series GS race at Lime Rock Park will be tape delayed on June 10th at 3 pm on SPEED Channel.

The next outing for Team Sahlen's KONI GS campaign will be at the Mid-Ohio event on June 23rd with Robert Brent and Robin Burnett driving.
