< Back to News Home Nonnamaker Family Tour Sahlen Sports Park

Posted (06/02/2005) - Beyond a passion for racing cars fast, the Sahlen and Nonnamaker family share a passion for futbol. Or as we Americans call it - Soccer.

Joe & Anita Sahlen's daughter - Alex played both High School and College Soccer. Currently she is playing semi pro for the local team in Rochester, New York.

Wayne and Will Nonnamaker also both played Soccer from elementary through high school.

So both families know about being fanatical about Soccer.

But recently, the Nonnamaker family had a chance to tour the Sahlen Sports Park...a facility that takes passion for Soccer and Recreational Sports Activities to a new level.

The purpose at Sahlen Sports Park is to provide a facility where family oriented, recreational sports activities can be enjoyed in an environment that cultiviates values like Sportsmanship, Leadership, Honesty, Responsibility, and Integrity. This environment is a product of both the actions and attitudes of the staff, management and al who pass through their doors

Inside are three full size fields. Each one without to walls. Indoor Field #1 is 42x82. Indoor Fields #2 and #3 are 95x35 and can be combined to make one big field or two separate fields. The Astroplay surface plays "just like grass". This turf surface was unlike any other that Wayne and Will had ever kicked a ball on. Instead of being a smooth surface, the artificial turf was textured to give the feel of real grass.

"What a great facility. In all our years going to soccer facilities with our two sons, I have never seen anything like this. After touring the Park, you really get to understand the Sahlen Family dedication to the Buffalo Community."

Beyond the three fields the Park also includes a dedicated training field that provides teams and players a unique experience. The Boarded field of 21x42 and has the dual roll of acting as the Tactical Development and First Touch Development Area. Both of these systems work to develop individual skill level and strategic part of the game.

Additional sports are played at the Park including Football, Lacrosse and Field Hockey

And to offer the full experience, the Park has its own Sports ProShop, The Park Cafe, Conference Room, Video Game room, and Bowling Alley!!!

And then for the latest addition, Mr. Sahlen shared with us the newest Phase 4 addition to the Park being built connecting to the facility:

- A brand new indoor field that will be full regulation 70 x 110.

- New larger entrance way

- New men's and women's locker rooms and showers

- New expanded lounge area for guest using the Park Café

- Additional office space

- Significant additional parking.
