Posted (01/26/2004) - TheRaceSite.com recently recognized various talents in the Grand Am Cup. The Phoenix team was recognized for various awards. Below you will read the official release from TheRaceSite.com:

At the end of the 2003 season we asked journalists, participants, and officials to vote for various awards in the Grand Am Cup season. The 2003 awards mark the third consecutive year that TheRaceSite.com has awarded these trophies.

The Crew Chief of the Year honor is bestowed upon the Crew Chief that not necessarily had the best on track results, but achieved the best results with the equipment and resources provided to him.

After tabulating all the votes, Mike Thomas of Planet Earth Motorsports scored the Crew Chief of the Year award. Planet Earth Motorsports, which is campaigned by the Phoenix ProMotions (the team also responsible for the HRPWorld.com Acuras), scored four wins and the Triple Crown Championship in Grand Sport.

For Mike Thomas it marked his second Crew Chief of the Year award in only three years. In 2001 he scored the title as the crew chief for the Sport Touring II HRPWorld.com Acuras.

"We had a strong season in 2003 and it was thanks to a lot of guys on the team," commented Thomas. "The season started off well with three wins in the first four races and we ended up scoring the title. We really didn't expect that but SpeedSource was a big help as we adapted to the Porsche model."

As the team heads into 2004 they will move into the Super Grand Sports class of the Grand American Rolex Series with the #41 Planet Earth Motorsports Porsche. In addition the team will defend their 2003 Championship with a trio of TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsches.

Past winners of the award include:
2001 GSII Crew Chief of the Year = Dave Haskell (SpeedSource)
2002 GSII Crew Chief of the Year = Dave Fredricks (Shreiner Racing)
