No one would have imagined nor picked Joe and Wayne Nonnamaker to have won this year's GS II Championship. Especially since the team received a very wrecked Porsche 996 from SpeedSource. In fact, many who had seen the wrecked Porsche said it was a right off.
Instead the persistent team went to work in the off season and rebuilt the Porsche. The first sign of things to come was the performance at the Daytona Test Days.
From the start of the season, Joe and Wayne set the tone by winning the first race of the year. Throughout the season, the father and son duo continued to turn in strong performances. Joe and Wayne captured 4 victories, 2 seconds, 2 thirds, and 1 fifth place.
"Its quite a thrill to not only win my first Driver Championship, but to win it with my youngest son Wayne is just awesome. The competition was really tough this season. In fact, our competition for the championship was Borcheller and Barber - who was this year's Daytona Prototype champion." - states Joe Nonnamaker
For 2004, Joe and Wayne will be step up to the Grand American ROLEX series, in the SGS class. The duo will campaign a Porsche GT3 Cup race car in the class. The premier event of the year will be the season opening ROLEX 24 Hours of Daytona. The SGS class represents unfinished business for Joe, who competed in the class from 2000-2002, accumulating 1 victory and 3 podiums.
